Does anyone make a sports CAT for the T5 one that wouldnt need swapping back to the original at MOT time ??
Have seen one decat pipe on *bay but that would need to be swapped come mot time plus remapping i guess???
Hi Guy,
I am unsure if anyone does this yet, i have not heard of this the only one i have heard of is the company on eBay as you stated and you will not pass the MOT with on. Without looking at the T5 i cannot say if it will affect the Superchip although i would say it may be likely that this would happen.
Dear Dr. Dub,
I purchased a 2001 T4 part converted panel van with 130k on the clock; it has been lowered by -50mm by the previous owner with red springs at the rear. The problem I’m having is that the front end has a marked bounce to it (mainly passenger side) and the tyres keep scrapping during the bounce on the wheel arches. Looking at the front shocks and they appear not to be leaking and I have also done the trusted jump on the doorstep and suspension appears to settle as it should. The van is sat on 17″ Passat alloy wheels with 225x55x17 R17 tyres fitted, is it the suspension at fault or the tyres?
I must add the road is quite bumpy which I have to travel to work every day.
Darren
Answer: From what you have said it sounds like you have the wrong offset and this will make the wheels sit further out so that it is either in line with the wheel arch or sticking out, whichever it is this is the reason you are experiencing the tyre rub (wheels are designed to go up into the wheel arch whenever you are on a un-even road or hit a pot-hole etc…when the protrude passed that point the only thing the wheel can hit is the wheel arch – the only solution is to change your wheels so you have the recommended offset or get the arches rolled, the recommended size is 235 x 45 x 17, try checking the bushes too, it may help by getting them changed.
The suspension issue is separate, if they are red springs they may have gone soft and started to sag and this is why the van is probably getting worse and will continue to as the strength in the steel is…well poor. You should change your shocks at appx 120,000miles so yours are due for a change, I would recommend the B4 Bilstein shocks as these will help the handling and be a firmer shock to what you have now and the Bilstein shocks will outlast any cheaper version and will work out more cost-effective in the long run. We have these on offer at £194.99 instead of the usual £269.99 RRP.
In summation, it sounds like that it is a little of both and will not improve until you start to rectify this.

Dear Dr. Dub,
I have a 1994 t4 transporter which has a 3 piece rear bumper which is tatty and I want to replace it, are you able to tell me if I am able to fit the later one piece bumper or is that not a direct replacement?
Daniel
The 1996> 1 piece bumper ‘can’ replace the older 3 piece style bumpers…with modification! They are not a direct replacement. If you still wish to proceed with this try going on the T4 Forum as I have no doubt someone on there will have done it and will have posted how to do this. If you don’t wish to do this modification you can find the rear part of your 3 piece bumper available from T4’s R Us> Category Bumpers & Panels.

Dear Dr. Dub,
Do you do the T4 Short Nose bumper and the rear bumper in white? If so would they be the same price? And if not do you know where I can get some?
Richard
All original and aftermarket bumpers are black, ours are a genuine Volkswagen Black colour; they are not available in white unless you purchase one and have it sprayed white with a bodyshop.

Dear Dr. Dub,
Hi mate running a t4 with 225x55x17 tyres on my 17″ 8j rims with and offset of 48. I’m not lowered and happy with the look but I’m getting rubbing on the rubber brake pipes at the front is there any way that I can stop this. Cheers dude!
Phil
The only way to stop this is to get smaller tyres, a 235 x 45 x 17 is the recommended size, and this should then stop the rubbing and will allow you to lower your van in the future, should you wish to.
